I’m still here…

13 01 2015

I know it’s been a while, but I started a new job which I love and not really had the time to post.

For those of you keeping up with website developments… I’ve started rebuilding my website again!!!!

I know, I know. It’s been a perpetual work in motion. This time though, I’ve actually started to develop the new site.

It’s based around a mobile first, responsive design that I’m putting together. It will look very similar to the previous incarnation of the website, while not totally unusable mobiles wise, wasn’t responsive design or mobile optimised. It was SEO friendly but times have changed and practices altered so the new design will reflect current methodologies.

If you’re interesting in keeping up with the development of the new site it’s located on a sub domain development site.

The other news is that I’ve now two sites to maintain, my photography website and an as yet an undeveloped copy of the photography website. This will be more design related.

I’ve also picked up a few domain names since my last post. The most useful is my four letter domain SB-Q. I just need to work out what I can get the Q to stand for!

Website Developments

16 02 2012

Ugh, well I know I’ve been working on my website for the last I don’t know HOW many years and I still feel it’s not finished, despite that fact that I keep putting new images on there, I’ve decided I need to re-write it!!!!!

Yes, I know.

It’s just that I’ve been messing around with iPad and iPhone HTML hooks and to achieve what I would like to achieve with these devices necessitates are rewrite.

It’s not all downhill. I’m going to utilise as much from the existing site as I can and don’t think much visually from a desktop browser view point will change. I think it’s going to be more of a background, mechanical change.

Having said that, I’ve now forked the existing site and started coding again.

Mins’t, website should be a continuously evolving and morphing medium. Well, I think so anyway.

Grumblings of a web developer

27 08 2010

Well its taken quite a while and a lot of slow methodic gentle developing but I think I’ve finally got my website into some kind of semblance. The design has had small incremental changes but last night early morning had a total rewrite and you know what its starting to look something like.

Now it’s not a flash (perish the thought) or flashy javascript bonanza but a ground roots simple html/css website – well it should be…

As I’m Mac based (and have been since ’88) I use Safari and Firefox to do the majority of testing to make sure it works, so far so good, but then comes that major, MAJOR thorn in the side of every (proper) web dev, IE 6,7 and 8. Well what can I say:- it don’t work.

For such a simple website you’d think that everything would be hunky-dory but nooooo, if only it was so simple.

Well for the time being, if you want to look at it properly use Safari, Firefox, even Chrome, but the buggy pain in the r£@r IE (at least 6 or 7) just forget it for now.

I know there are people using these browser because my google analytics shows me they are. On the plus side at least its advancing, if somewhat at a snails pace.

My good friend John’s website after its redesign has started to see a good amount of regular traffic and he’s been producing some great model portfolios.

Grumblings over for now!

Steve

What’s up with the Website????

25 05 2010

Well work has been stalled lately for my other website steve barnett photography while I finished of my first year at Uni.

As that’s all over and done with now till September I should be able to put some more hours back into getting more photos uploaded and it finished off. It’s mostly the navigation bar that’s looking somewhat not complete so as soon as I can, it’ll be done.

Keep checking back to see its progress.

Steve Barnett Photography .com

26 04 2010

Well it’s not quite there and things are a little slow as I’m snowed under with university work at the moment. Only three/four weeks to the end of the academic year.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get some more updates done in the next day or two, so I do appoligise for any delay this may cause anyone wishing to purchase images.

Cheers

Steve

Thoughts on Photos

26 04 2010

Well after much cogitating I’ve decided to split my photo galleries into two parts. The first you’ll find on the posts around this blog, the second, you’ll find at my other website.

Now the rational is, if you like the look any photo that’s posted on here ‘the blog’, then as long as you respect my copyright and you only use the photograph for your own personal use then that’s okay with me.

If on the other-hand you’d like a nice high quality print (silk or gloss) or use it for anything other than personal use then head-on-over and have a look in the galleries where you’ll be able to find my prints for sale.

I hope you think this is a fair arrangement and look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Steve

Website Update

20 04 2010

Well I’m still chipping away at my new website and I guess it’s only fair to mention that I’m developing it on my Mac and testing it in Safari and Firefox I’m not going to be aware of any problems on that other (cough) major operating system. If you do have a look at it doesn’t look at all right then please leave me a comment and let me know what’s wrong with it.

Of course I’ll be testing it in all major browsers before too long, just need to find a PC box to test it with!!!!!

General update

19 04 2010

Well it’s only a few days to go to the Whitby Goth Weekend and I’m hoping, as I’m sure a lot of people are, that the weather is going to be nice and sunny. I’ve treated myself to an ebay special, an 85mm f1.8 lens, so this is the first outing of this lens and I’m looking forward to getting some really sharp photos with the new lens.

Work is progressing nicely on the new website and while not as far along as I would have liked it should be up and running in a limited fashion for Friday (fingers crossed).

My good ol friend John has been busy in his studio and taken some wonderful Portfolio photographs and while it’s a bit premature, as I’m his webmaster I’ll post a sneak preview link here.

Anyway, a further update probably on Monday with some WGW photos on here and for sale on my other website.

Cheers Steve

At this stage is still in heavy development but it’s getting there. Completion is expected before the next Whitby Goth Weekend at the end of April.

Anyway check it out and please leave any feedback.
